Jim Thorpe, GSE

This is from PA fan and musician Rick Gabe (go take some singing lessons from him!):

One hour north of Philadelphia nestled in the southern foothills of the Pocono Mountains is the town of Jim Thorpe. This is town is a gem. Some have referred to as “Little Switzerland”, as it resembles a Swiss Alps village with unique shops, restaurants and museums. A gorgeous natural area surrounds the immediate downtown border. The Leigh River and it’s accompanying water falls run to the east of downtown while Mauch Chunk State Park provides a beautiful lake and recreation area just 2 miles to the north of the city. On a recent visit, the lake is frozen adding to the beautiful winter splendor of the place. What a great find- and just a small sliver of what makes Pennsylvania such a great state.

I was shocked to learn that the state of Pennsylvania did not have an official day of recognition. PA deserves such a day just on history alone. A recap of how just how important the history of PA has been to our country is not necessary here. Most folks born in this country know the historical significance of both Philadelphia and the state of Pennsylvania.

Some other unique landmarks that help make PA the great state that it is include Wellsboro, known as “The Grand Canyon of PA”, Gettysburg, Johnstown and the great city of Pittsburgh.

PA day? Absolutely- let’s make it happen!
