It seems like there’s a holiday for just about everything. Penguin Awareness Day, National Pie Day, National Meth Day, Secretary’s Day, Talk Like A Pirate Day, and the list goes on.
I decided that Pennsylvania deserves its own special day, too, because I think it’s the greatest state ever. And lots of people agree with me.
I picked March 4 as the date because it’s the anniversary of when William Penn got his mitts on the land charter in 1681. The other date I considered was December 12, because that’s when we officially became a state in 1787. That date has the advantage of numerical elegance, but nobody wanted another party obligation in the middle of the sparkle season. So March 4 it is.
My plan for this blog is to share thoughts and meditations about Pennsylvania from both native and non-native fans of the state, and to share helpful tips and ideas about planning your own PA Day holiday party. So if you’re reading this and you’d like to submit your own mumblings, raves, prayers, or manifestos about the greatest state ever, please do!

This blog is quite a funny joke and we think there are too many non-holiday holidays. Do we need another? Are you trying to corner the market on greeting cards? Are you unaware March 4th is Vermont Admission Day?
Pennsylvania, the Greatest State Ever? Please. We can think of a half dozen better states, some of them Australian and some of them of matter. New South Wales and Bose-Einstein condensate to name two.
According to our calculations, based on a number of factors, including population diversity, number of inventions, rail service, PBS television stations, tourism television ads from the 1980s, first date of European settlement, political corruption, several songs about New Jersey, Zeppelin disasters, and traveling throughout the Garden State we have concluded New Jersey is the Greatest State Ever.
How can any state that never had a Zeppelin disaster be the Greatest State Ever? Oh the humanity!
